UVITA
Pacific Beach town Uvita approximately 16 kilometers south of Surf Town Dominical on the Southern Coast of Costa Rica. This formal small fishing village has been transformed into a popular Pacific Beach Town.
Uvita has a special multicultural atmosphere thanks to the mixture of locals ,Surfers / foreigners from all over the world travelling or residing in the area. We are talking about a very healthy balance here , most of the the businesses are successfully managed and owned by The Locals.

Wildlife : Uvita is famous for the migration of humpback whales to its warm and calm waters
The whales :visit in December to March and from August to November each year. In the national Park :Marina Ballena Ballena the Whales and babies are safe . That’s why the park is called Parque National Marina Ballena .Well not only by the whales that migrate here, but where resident dolphin populations (bottlenose, spinner, and spotted dolphins) are also found and can be spotted easily !
The Ballena Marine National Park protects more than 5,300 hectares of ocean and 9 miles of coastline. The park also is a safe nesting site for the Olive Ridley Sea turtle. The park’s beaches are protected from dangerous currents by reefs and islands.
There are several entrances to the park: Punta Uvita in Bahia with its nice mellow beach street with many modest soda,s restaurants / bars
Playa Colonia (also known as Chaman),
the other entrances are at playa Ballena Ballena and the next entrance is the Rocky Fisherman Beach Piñuelas

From Uvita beach visitors can at low tide walk through it, swim in its safe warm waters, and land –in are starting the magnificent range of mountains that soars high above the shore.
Devolopment :Yes ! Uvita has experienced a bubbling development in the last couple of years. Nowadays the town has two well-supplied supermarkets, two drugstores, doctor and dentist offices, beauty parlours, and a (for centro America standards) a very modern indoor soccer field and sports center, and a lovely farmers Market every Saturday morning.
UVITA is a great (Surf)town to visit , offering many accommodations for all budgets and conveniently close to nice restaurants and activity spots.
Some Beaches
Punta Uvita Beach and the Whale’s Tale: Take a 25-minute walk from the center of Uvita to Punta Uvita Beach at low tide to discover the famous whale’s tail sandbar. Enjoy walking through it to the point and dip in the warm, quiet waters at either side of this amazing formation.
Arco Beach: Accessible only at low tide through Ballena Beach It offers a great combination of cliffs, primary forest, and caves. This cute beach can also be accessed through Cuisinga Liodge.
Ventanas Beach: Located about 15 km south of Uvita. Small beach (Bay)with two caverns formed on the rock by the breaking waves. A beautiful Beach WITH 100 % Paradise ingredients Great for swimming and playing with boogie boards
Enough Palm and Trees for shade,but be carefull looking for shade right under the big Coconut Palms...

Good Surf Beach but need to be careful with swimming! No life guards here like in Dominical but also dangerous! Do not go in to deep and watch your children !
Waterfalls and swimming holes
There is a beautiful waterfall 2 km from the center of Uvita. Start at Banco de Costa Rica and go straight ahead into the Mountains ( east).
This Refreshing water fall is on the gravel road up the hill right after Uvita’s graveyard , after a few minutes you will see a Soda at your right.
There is also a nice waterfall and swimming hole in Dominicalito (15 km north of Uvita). It is on the road running behind the soccer field of Dominicalito, up to Escaleras. Ask locals for Poza Azul
Waterfall and Talaphia Restaurant
About 20 min South of UvIta is another very special Waterfall with a round rock hanging in the middle of the Fall, drive on the Costanera towards Punta Mala and turn left before the bridge (at the sign Talaphia Restaurant El Pavon) and follow the gravel MountainRoad 7 min. The best is to park your car At El Pavon, walk back to the waterfall. Enjoy and swim and return to have a fresh and great fishmeal,,very nice 100 % Tico Restaurant.Good food & riendly service.
The Waterfall in Vergel
Climate :Located in the Southern Pacific Coastal Rainforests, Uvita offers a tropical, moist climate. From December through April, one can expect temperatures to reach to mid 90's and a low in the 70's with limited rainfall. From May through November, one can expect temperatures in the upper 80's and a low in the 70's with much more rainfall ( 15 min.drive south of Dominical ) is a fast growing beach community with many Costaricans owning businesses and also very popular for foreign investors and people looking for a nice place in the sun.
Uvita is a full Service Town : Offering Banks,Dining,Chopping-centro, Internet,Dentist ,Medical care,lawyers,Schools, English Speaking Property Management&Land Care Services Services , Sport centre, Saturday Morning Fruit & Vegetable market etc.
From Uvita it is only a 35 km to San Isidro (the most fast growing city in Centro America) and in a 20 min. drive you are in Palmar with small airport..planes to and from San Jose.

This year the road from Quepos to Dominical will be completed so you are able to drive in just a few hours from San Jose to Uvita.And good to know : New Hospital next to the Coastal Highway in Cortes ,

The Costanera ( Coastal Highway) is a delight to drive offering nice passages : on one site the beaches and at the other the beautiful mountains.
