Working on a nice property in Ventanas this amazing bird caught my special attention
the Sarlet Macaw (Lapa) is looking for nesting space.
Even that old tree in your yard might be important to nest
The Lapa /Scarlet Macaw
& its love for The Gallenazo Tree
Important Scarlet Macaw feeding
Tree species :
Ceiba pentandra, Schizolobium parahybum(Gallenazo)and Hura crepitans;
these species are also crucial to this macaw population because of nest cavities they provide.
the conservation of Scarlet Macaws in Central and south Pacific Costa Rica through promoting protection of individual trees, and through reforestation focusing on tree species that macaws use for feeding and/or nesting like the Gallenazo, this is also a great nesting treefor Iguanas and other parrots
Nesting
Scarlet macaws are secondary cavity nesters, they nest in naturally formed tree holes. Trees with soft wood, such as Ceiba (Ceiba pentandra) and Gallinazo (Schizolobium parahybum) will form cavities more quickly than hard wood trees, so are important for the species. Many nests are found in the gallenazo Trees.
Scarlet Macaw conservation is extremely important, as numerous population pressures have caused significant declines in macaw numbers in Costa Rica
Following is a list of native trees that provide favorite fruits for the Aras/scarlet macaws.
Do not cut down and plant as many as you can on your property to protect the Scarlet Maccaw for extinct and/or disappearing in our area.
